Leconfield Hall

Leconfield Hall, Petworth is constructed using local stone (Bedham Greensand Stone) and brick. Some of the walls had been subject to water penetration due to previous defects to the rainwater goods which had lead to damage to the internal decorations, and possibly caused rot and decay to some of the embedded structural timbers. In the worst affected and "at risk" areas we exposed timbers for further professional inspection and we were able to prevent further rot and decay to these timbers by careful application and installations of high performance, deep penetrating, boron based preservatives avoiding the need for costly timber replacements.

The internal walls are plastered with a stong sand/cement render with finish plaster. You can see the water damage was extensive in some areas but removal of all of the renders would have caused extensive damage to the greensand stone and stress on the buildings structure with enormous amounts of noise, vibration and dust thoughout the building, and to our staff, we therefore installed a ventilated cavity drain membrane to the wall on top of the existing wall plaster and finishing with plasterboarding mounted on to pretreated timber battens and finish plaster. This allowed for final decoration within 2 weeks.
