Timber Treatment Specification

(Woodworm)

The purpose of these treatments is to control infestations by wood boring beetle (Anobium punctatum) which my be affecting the accessible structural timbers within the property. This is done by applying a insecticidal fluid to the accessible surfaces of the timbers. The chemical we use are aqueous based permetherin (unless otherwise stated in our report) and all have approval and are HSE registered by the manufactures. Full Safety Data Sheets relating to these chemicals are available on request. To control active inestations of wood boring beetle we apply the aforementioned chemicals to the manufacturers specifications, generally this works comprises of:-

Roof Timbers

Sweep down timbers with brooms.
Double saturate all accessible roof timbers within the roof void with a pressured spray applied Permetherin based insecticidal fluid.
We will require all stored effects, insulation, and boarding to be removed from the roof void prior to our technician’s arrival unless otherwise stated in our report/quotation.

Staircases

Treat all accessible unpainted staircase timbers with a double saturation of pressure spray applied Permetherin based insecticidal fluid.
We will require all carpeting and stored effects in the under stairs area to be removed prior to our technician’s arrival.

Floor Timbers

Lift strategic floorboards as necessary, this is approximately every 1.2m or every 4 to 7 floorboards.
Double saturate all accessible floorboards and sub floor timbers with a pressured spray applied Permetherin based insecticidal fluid.
Relay floorboards then double saturate by pressure spray the topsides of the floorboards and immediately adjacent unpainted joinery items with a Permetherin based insecticidal fluid.
We will require all floor coverings, carpets, furniture and effects to be removed prior to our technician’s arrival.

With tongue and groove floorboards, and exposed & polished or varnished floorboards some damage will occur when we are lifting the floorboards as part of our treatment, naturally we will do our best to keep damage to a minimum but you must accept this risk as we cannot accept claims for this damage.

Where no specialist timber treatment works are recommended by ourselves and/or timbers appear to be free of active infestations by wood boring beetle we are not saying that future specialist remedial works or treatments will never be necessary. We therefore recommend that periodical checks/inspections be made every three to five years.

Children, mammals, and pets should not be allowed within the areas of treatments during, and for a period of at least 1 hour after completion of our treatments.

We require clients to provide a suitable safe electrical and clean running water supply free of charge.
